In the beginning of the holocaust Jews were being taken from their homes and were being snatched from their personal belongings. Not only were they forced to leave everything behind but were also forced to be separated from their families. In the book “Night” It says “They were followed by Jewish police, who their voices breaking, told us: “The time has come . . . you must leave all this . . .” At the moment the Jews were ignorant as to where they were going. They had no idea they were going to their death, just like this in Burma people were being killed for practicing a different belief. This injustice is still going on today despite the fact that it happened years ago.
Injustice can occur anywhere, it can happen to anyone in any shape, way or form. In The Holocaust Jews had many limitations and the word “free” no longer had a meaning. They were only aloud to eat certain things; they were forced to strip in front of thousands of people and were dehumanized. In the book “Night” it says “And the spectators observed these emaciated creatures ready to kill for a crust of bread.” This shows just how bad they were treated and not well fed. In Burma the Rohingya Muslims were also forced to be moved into concentration camps and were denied access to healthy meals. History is bound to repeat itself, this is just another example of the many that there is.

The dentist that worked in the concentration camps were appointed to pull out the gold crowns out of the inmates mouths, even though it was illegal at the time. On page 56, in Night, “.. A ration of Bread for one of my pals, a famous dentist from Warsaw. To pay him for pulling out your crown.” “What? My ration of bread so that you can have my crown?”. The dentist took out the prisoners gold crowns so that they could melt it into gold bars, and eventually this illegal process was stopped and shut down. Every dentist that participated in the act was sent to jail. This was a way of stripping the captives from their humanity, because their gold crowns were very important to them, like the author, Elie Wiesel. In Burma, people are being prosecuted for having different beliefs and believing what they want to, like most humans, which relates to this because people will do anything to take what is most valuable to you.
Many Jews or prisoners held captive were used as an example to show other inmates what would be in store if they disobeyed, or did anything the Nazis didn't necessarily approve of. On page 62, in the book "Night", it states "In the name of Reichsfuhrer Himmler… prisoner number … stole during the air raid… is condemned to death. Let this be a warning and an example to all prisoners". As a way to scare the prisoners, and ensure that they wouldn't try to rebel against the Nazis soldiers, they decided to hang a young boy and have all the inmates pass by him as he hung lifeless by a rope around his neck. While the prisoners watched the young boy, it instilled fear into their souls, like the Germans hoped. Just like in Burma, the Buddhist are trying to put fear into the Muslims so they can kill them off easier.

On December 10th of 1986, Elie Wiesel earns the nobel peace prize for the book Night. In his acceptance speech, he says “There is so much injustice and suffering crying out for attention: victims of hunger, of racism, and political persecution” pg.119. As a survivor of the holocaust, Elie wanted the public to know that social injustice and ethnical cleansing needs to come to an end. This is related to the genocide today in Burma, because Rohingya Muslims are victims of dehumanization and persecution. This crime against humanity has been ignored and even denied of existence from people all around the world.
Wiesel also says “We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. We human lives are endangered, we human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Whenever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at the moment - become the center of the universe.” pg. 118-119. This quotes states that if there is another injustice crime, people should act upon it. Ignoring is one of the worst things that we could possibly do and the world needs to work together. In the past, the holocaust should have not been ignored for as long as it was. This ethnical cleansing, massacre in Burma has been ignored for sometime now and may have the same results as the holocaust. If we do not do anything many more innocent lives will be lost.

In the book Night there is a quote that goes like this "We were all going to die here. All limits had been passed. No one had any strength left. And again the night would be long." pg. 98. In this quote Elie Wiesel claims that he is going to die and there is nothing to do about it no more. That longer nights were there to come and these were going to be the last long nights. This quote is related to the genocide in Burma because the Muslims lost all there hope also and thought it was over for all of their kind.
Elie Wiesel during his time in camp loses faith in God. He says "I did not deny God's existence, but I doubted His absolute justice." pg. 42. In this quote he states his belief of God and the way he has been for the Jews. In his eyes God has been very injustice and he doesn't think there is a God. This is similar to how the Muslims felt because they're being persecuted for their beliefs and religion. When you're being killed for you're belief in God and he isn't doing anything about it then you assume its an injustice. In both of these quotes Elie Wiesel loses hope in himself and his strong belief in God.
