In 1939, after the invasion of Poland, the Holocaust gradually increased. Adolf Hitler was the leader of this genocide, along with the help from thousands of German soldiers. His plan started out as exterminating all Jews, because they were the reason why Germany loss WW1. They were also the scapegoat for causing economic crisis. German soldiers established ghettos, which were small homes for large groups of non-aryans. These people were forced to live under the impression that this was a better place for them. After living in the ghettos, non-aryans were sent to work in concentration camps all over Germany. In these camps many lives were lost.
Non-aryans were deported to the concentration camps in cattle cars, trains, and some were even forced to walk. Many died before reaching their destination, due to starvation, illnesses and weather conditions. The German soldiers split them into different groups, once they arrived to the camps. Men were separated from women, and children under the age of eighteen. The elders and younger children were immediately sent to the gas chambers and crematories to die, because they were no use for working. As a result, people attempted to lie about their age to make it through that selection.
Not everyone died because of murder. Dysentery was a common disease that non-aryans were infected with while living in the concentration camps. It is caused by eating unsanitary food and drinking poor quality water. They also starved and had a lack of nutrients. Homosexuals were also sent to the doctor’s office at the camp to get experimented on to “cure their disability”. As a result, the Holocaust claimed about 6 million lives of men, women, and children.
